Embrace the New Year with Mindful Presence

Scrape the resolutions, and move on to the Mantra of ‘New Year, New Me’ for the year ending. How does one wholly stay in the present and make every bit of their New Year’s Eve and morning count?

Spending time with oneself:

One can choose to take a walk at a neighbourhood park or simply explore the neighbourhood itself, watch/ re-watch your favourite movie, read, or do nothing!

We might be surrounded by family and friends during celebrations, but that shouldn’t take over the time that one needs to spend with oneself. Let us acknowledge all the parts of ourselves that are only true to our inner selves and make peace with them in the process. If your pockets and mindspace allow, take a break and holiday somewhere peaceful.

Reflect on the year that’s gone by:

Let us join a reflective circle, choose our methods of journaling, and open our minds to the changes that have occurred around us and within ourselves.

In the chaos of celebration, we often fail to pause, look back, and account for everything we are grateful or frustrated about with the year that has come to an end. There is a need for acceptance to creep in regardless of lessons learnt or achievements gained.

Spend a gala evening:

Spend a cold evening by a Bonfire, barbecue or with living beings who spread warmth!

Let’s dust off our card games, fix up our karaoke, and sing or dance our night away. Even if you are someone who rarely celebrates and takes life as it happens, snatch that teeny bit of time to celebrate. Count down to the New Year and great things!

Pick up a new skill or pastime:

Resolutions are harsh, while learning is fun! Learn to play an instrument, bake, grow your microgreens, or birding, perhaps? Invest in something that we have always wanted to work on (for god’s sake, not another gym membership package!). Investment need not always be capital intensive, invest your time, dedication, buy a few supporting materials or book a holiday! 😉

Eat well and Healthy:

Most importantly, let us give a little extra effort and time to procure/ cook healthy food. In our daily chase of time and life, we overlook our health. So, can we put an  effort into nourishing health amidst other celebrations? And can we resolve to invest this time and effort in our own well-being for the rest of the year?

Be kind, spread love:

Warm outdoor picnic with all those close to our hearts, or a visit to a dog park for some unconditional love! Let’s begin the first day of the New Year by being kind to ourselves and our surroundings, spreading love on our terms and cutting off toxicity. Love and kindness heal and fix everything in the world, so let us manifest a year abundant with these!

The list can go on, but let us stick to what serves us and what we can offer in return. One need not play by a framework; following our hearts can be immensely gratifying. So, this New Year let’s seek well-being in every aspect- emotionally, mentally, economically, ecologically and socially!

Sparrow Woods caters to all your well-being needs. Plan your picnics, walks, and seek time for solitude with the rest of Nature. Spend your daytime nature journaling, reading, birding, or simply sunbathing, and cold evenings by the bonfire.
